Dropbox has become the most popular cloud sync solutions out there thanks to its core strengths, ease of use, speed and so on. But the company has earned a lot of good will thanks to pretty open culture and for engaging with its users.

Perhaps it's not a big surprise then that some users have discovered an Easter Egg in the Dropbox client. It's been around for a few months now, apparently since April this year, but it's a fairly specific Easter Egg so it took this long to discover it.

The hidden Easter Egg was only uncovered a couple of days ago and revealed on the Dropbox forums.

Triggering the Easter Egg is not that complicated, now that it's been revealed.

First, create a folder or file and rename it "albert didn't know". If you create a file, you have to make sure that it doesn't have any extension, it's probably safer to create a folder.

Wait for it to sync, then rename it "neither did Aston." Wait for this to sync as well and then rename the file or folder again to "but rajiv totally knew! oh shoot!" and that's it.

After it syncs, a new window should pop up, titled "X marks the spot" and then presents some members of the Dropbox team. Towards the end, there's also a greeting for Apple, Google and Microsoft.

The Easter Egg has been around since 15th of April this year, according to the message itself.

Note that, so far, it's only been found to work on Mac OS X, so it probably won't work if you're running Linux or Windows. That said, it could be that the messages are different or that the Easter Egg is triggered differently on other platforms. Or it may be Mac specific.
