Dropbox 2.7.52 Experimental is out and available for download on Mac OS X, Windows, and Linux computers. The focus of this beta is to patch some Windows-centric bugs, but there are some tweaks included for everyone else as well.

Recommended for testing purposes only, Dropbox 2.7.52 Experimental is the latest update available from the popular cloud company, addressing issues with linking a second account for a small number of users on Windows. A rare crash in Windows preferences related to camera uploads is also patched.

Other changes, which extend to all supported platforms (including OS X and Linux), include better caching in the tray popup when running two accounts, improved setup flow when choosing a Dropbox folder path that is a symlink, and improved robustness for the auto sign-in installers.

The Dropbox 2.7 series also includes a prompt to selective sync in the setup wizard for large Dropboxes, auto sign-in installers for Windows and Mac OS X, a notification when the hard disk is full, and new icons in the tray popup.

According to the development team, “if your Dropbox is more than 6 GB or syncing your Dropbox would fill up most of your remaining hard disk space, we will prompt you to use selective sync to skip syncing some of your folders.”

Users are asked to note that “this prompt is skipped if you have previously linked this account, as we assume you'll have your selective sync settings from before.”

The cloud company is asking Experimental build users to test the auto sign-in installers for Windows and Mac OS X. Dropbox says that if you're logged in to the website, the app should not ask you for your Dropbox username and password a second time.

“If you want to help us test this, unlink your Dropbox from preferences or uninstall Dropbox,” the team adds. “Then click one of the links below. If you're not signed into dropbox.com you'll be asked to sign in, then the small installer will download. The install should automatically sign you into Dropbox on your computer!”

Users are also asked to note that if their Dropbox is very large (+300,000 files), the aforementioned mission should be aborted. Mac users will only be able to test the new build on OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard) and newer versions.
