Dropbox 2.7.50 experimental version, a client for an online service that lets you bring all your photos, docs, and videos anywhere, has been made available for testing with a number of important fixes, although not all of them also apply to the Linux platform.

The Dropbox developers have released yet another development build of their client and this time they implemented a number of fixes and changes that are more platform-specific.

The Linux Dropbox users have gotten used to being ignored. Most of the important changes and new options are usually promoted to the Windows and Mac OS platforms. For example, it took devs a while to come up with a fix for a dependency problem that has been plaguing Ubuntu users and it's not even present in the latest stable, at least not yet.

The latest build of Dropbox, 2.7.50, brings a few important fixes for the Windows platform, and an issue where Dropbox wasn't in the AutoPlay settings on Windows 8 has been resolved. The Windows application now also removes all the files pertaining to it after the uninstall.

Also, users are now allowed to bypass Selective Sync, even if the application will consider that they don't have enough disk space, and a rare issue on Linux systems that have ASCII as their locale has been fixed.

The 2.7.x branch of Dropbox is also trying some new stuff like various improvements for the selective sync.

“Prompt to selective sync in the setupwizard for large Dropboxes – if your Dropbox is more than 6 GB or syncing your Dropbox would fill up most of your remaining hard disk space, we will prompt you to use selective sync to skip syncing some of your folders. Note that this prompt is skipped if you have previously linked this account, as we assume you'll have your selective sync settings from before,” noted the developers in the official announcement.

Also, keep in mind that Linux users don't have access to binary files of the latest Dropbox client. This means that you will only get the source file and you will have to compile it by yourself. If you already have another version installed, you will need to purge it and start from the beginning.

Check out the official announcement for more details about this release. Remember that this is a development version and it should NOT be installed on production machines. It is intended for testing purposes only.
