Dropbox 2.7.43 experimental version, a client for an online service that lets you bring all your photos, docs, and videos anywhere, is now available for download and testing.

The Dropbox developers are going forward with this experimental branch, and they managed to get even more fixes for the new versions, although they are not quite as exciting as the previous couple of releases. The Linux platform is not exactly the focus of the development cycle, but some of the fixes do apply to the Linux version as well.

The latest build of Dropbox, 2.7.43, is a very small release, if we just take a look at the changelog. It's very likely that the developers are approaching the end of the cycle and are getting closer to releasing a new major stable update.

According to the announcement, a rare bug that occurred when quitting Dropbox has been fixed, a line wrapping bug for long status strings in the tray pop-up has been corrected, and a few translations have been updated.

This experimental branch of Dropbox also comes with a number of very interesting features that have been promoted with each version. The Windows and Mac OS X platforms will feature Pore-authorized installers. This may not seem like much, but if you remember how Google Chrome is installed, you will know how this works. You will just hit install and everything is put in place without any interference from the users.

“We're trying something new this time. We'd like you to test our pre-authorized installers for Windows and Mac OS X. The pre-authorized installer will not ask you for your Dropbox username and password a 2nd time if you're logged in to the website,” said the developer in the changelog.

Also, when the hard disk is getting full you will receive a proper notification, a native UI for shared folder invitation and management will be provided to users, and new icons will be available in the tray popup.

Check out the official announcement for more details about this release. Remember that this is a development version and it should NOT be installed on production machines. It is intended for testing purposes only.
