Windows Phone users will be pleased to know that Dropbox, the popular cloud storage services has just received a major update that brings lots of new features and improvements.

The most important is the fact that Dropbox has become a universal app, thus sharing the same code with the Windows app. Other improvements have been implemented as well, which are meant to bring the app's functionality on par with the Windows version.

Beside the fact that this is a universal app, the most obvious changes are the visual ones. Dropbox for Windows Phone is more eye-candy and packs more features than the previous versions.

Another important change implemented by developers is the fact that the application now adapts properly to the phone's screen size. Also, Dropbox users on Windows Phone will be able to upload files other than photos.

According to the official changelog, developers added a new ability that will allow users to select phone contacts when inviting people to a shared folder.

Increased download speeds and option to upload files other than photos

To make it easier to upload files, Dropbox now allows users to select multiple files. This should make the process much easier when trying to upload loads of files to the cloud.

Another new feature added is the option to download files directly to your phone or SD card. Also, you can now save or open files to and from Dropbox within other apps.

Furthermore, Dropbox developers promise improved download speeds. Last but not least, some bug fixes and performance improvements have been implemented too, but no additional details on the matter have been shared yet.

If you don't have the application installed yet, you can now download Dropbox for Windows Phone 2.0 for free via Windows Phone Store. The application should be fully compatible with all devices powered by Windows Phone 8 and up.
