Enough Sci-Fi shooters and futuristic racing through outer space. "From the streets that sold over 14 million...designed exclusively for the PSP...40 customizable vehicles...head to head multiplayer," is Driver 76, back and furious to set your handheld gaming system from Sony on fire.

The mission-based driving game from Reflections Interactive first appeared on Sony's first PlayStation console (the grey boxy one in case you forgot) as: Driver: You Are the Wheelman. Even then, it was quite impressive and unique as no other driving game of the kind had launched by then. As an undercover police officer (Tanner), who drinks his coffee black and doesn't say a word. He just acts. The game featured a storyline based in four real-life cities; Miami, San Francisco, Los Angeles and New York City and was set in the 70s. It's currently the best selling game of the Driver series, being the one starting the freedom to explore a city and do whatever, much like the GTA series.

Driver 2: the Wheelman is Back launched to be practically the same. The settings were pretty much everything that differed from the first installment: Chicago, Havana, Las Vegas and Rio de Janeiro.

Driv3R launched to be significantly different but not in a good way. Set in Miami, Nice and Istanbul it had an insipid story line, poor controls and quite a lot of glitches, but it didn't stop it from selling. It was released on practically every platform out there, including Nokia's N-Gage and a Nintendo's GameBoy Advance.

We could go on forever talking about the Driver series, but the most recently announced one for PSP, is the one that counts. Taking gamers close to the beginning of the first Driver title, 2 years before to be more specific, Driver 76 is set in New York City showing off some impressive features for a PSP driving game and for a PSP game nonetheless. Improved graphics were the first thing I noticed watching the trailer below, which I indulge you to watch yourselves. But the 40 customizable vehicles... that just took my breath away. Not to mention the music hits of the 70s car chasing movies.

I'm keeping my eyes peeled for any new details on the game, not necessarily to tell you about it, but for me to know because I'm such a huge fan. This one's definitely worth getting a PSP for.
