Multiplayer is going to be affected due to diagnostics

Driveclub developer Evolution Studios confirms that, in order to do maintenance and perform diagnostics on the servers of the racing game, the online mode might become unavailable for short periods of time.

Driveclub has been eagerly awaited by millions of PS4 owners for quite some time, as the title was initially set to appear right alongside the new Sony home console last November. Unfortunately for them, Evolution and Sony decided to delay the racing experience, so that it could deliver a polished social experience that convinced players to start their own racing clubs and compete with others.

After almost a year-long delay, the title launched earlier this week on the PS4, finally bringing forth its racing experience. Unfortunately, the actual servers that backed the whole social part of the game were unable to handle the load and started displaying plenty of errors, while denying access to many.

The servers might go down completely later today

Evolution released several statements in recent days and now a new one has just appeared on the official Facebook page, warning Driveclub owners that the online experience might be affected even more today, October 10, as its team needs to take down the servers to run diagnostics and see just what's wrong with them.

As such, owners of the PS4 racing game might be met with offline periods, depending on how much time the studio needs to run all of its tests and procedures.

"During the next 24hrs we are running essential diagnostics to help us improve the performance of the servers. This may disrupt online play for you when you do get connected," Evolution explains. "We are sorry we don't have more news to share right now but we will keep working hard to get you all up and running online as quickly as we can."

Server issues mean free PS Plus edition is still unavailable

The continued issues with the Driveclub servers mean that the free edition of the game offered to PlayStation Plus subscribers is still unavailable. Right now, the online servers allow a player to connect once another one disconnects. The surge in users once the free version becomes available would put an even bigger strain on the servers, so Plus members will have to keep playing the waiting game.

Neither Evolution nor Sony has any estimate for when the Driveclub server problems will be resolved, so until then many players will have to enjoy just the campaign mode, without being able to form and grow their own club.
