Evolution is working hard on upgrading the servers

Evolution Studios confirms that the Driveclub PS4 servers are still under a lot of pressure, meaning existing owners are currently greeted with busy online mechanics, while the PS Plus edition can't be released just yet as it would end up causing even more stress for the multiplayer system.

Driveclub finally launched earlier this week on the PS4 platform, delivering a racing experience with an emphasis on social groups and challenges. The title was originally set to appear last year right alongside the debut of the PS4, but developer Evolution decided much more work was needed to ensure that the actual social mechanics worked as intended.

Unfortunately, the title, while interesting in terms of actual gameplay, is currently crippled by its online servers, which are struggling to handle the load of users.

The servers are still under pressure

After confirming yesterday that it's doing everything it can to get the servers working at peak efficiency, Evolution has offered a new statement on the official Facebook page, saying that it understands the position of fans and that the servers are still unable to handle all the players.

"We're just as frustrated as you about the server performance issues right now. We want you to be racing with clubs and having fun playing challenges, not checking Facebook updates from us to see if the servers are updated yet," the studio says.

The developer adds that more info is going to appear later today, after more solutions are created and tested by its internal team and the larger Sony staff.

The servers are hitting their limits right now

Evolution also explains just what's wrong with the servers at the moment, confirming that they're hitting their limits in terms of player slots, meaning that for more people to be allowed into the online mode, others have to exit it.

"In case you don't already know, the servers are up and running but they are hitting their performance limits, so they won't accept new connections until one of the current online players frees up their space (allowing another to join in their place, which happens automatically and player selection is random)," the studio reveals.

"If and when you get online, you should not have any connectivity issues during the remainder of your session. When you finish and disconnect, you'll free up a space for someone else. This is obviously not ideal, especially given that there are a lot of players waiting to connect, but that's how it's working right now."

As of yet, concrete solutions aren't available, so don't expect for the Driveclub servers issues to be fixed anytime soon. As a result, the PS Plus edition has been delayed indefinitely, as offering the free version of the game would result in an even bigger load on the servers.
