Sony Worldwide Studios boss Shuhei Yoshida has stepped forward in regards to the Driveclub debacle and confirms that, until all the online issues surrounding the PS4 racing game are solved, the free PS Plus edition of the long-awaited title is delayed indefinitely.

Driveclub was eagerly awaited by many fans back in November of last year, as quite a few of them were hoping to snag the racing game alongside the actual PS4, which came out that month. Unfortunately, right before the anticipated debut, Sony and developer Evolution Studios decided to delay the game as its social racing experience wasn't shaping up as intended.

After almost one whole year of extra development time, the game launched at the beginning of this month and was immediately met with a huge problem, in regards to the online multiplayer, which wasn't ready to handle the load of that many PS4 owners.

Despite working hard to remedy the issues, problems are still present in the game, leading to a backlash from fans.

Sony's Yoshida steps forward to provide details

Now, Sony Worldwide Studios boss and the direct overseer of internal teams like Evolution, Shuhei Yoshida, offers a statement on the official Facebook page in regards to the Driveclub situation, apologizing for the issues.

According to the executive, everything is being done to remedy the problems as fast as possible, and in order to speed up the process, additional engineers have been sent to the Evolution headquarters. Unfortunately, there's no time frame for when the problems will be solved.

"[Evolution] is working around the clock to close the gap, and we have deployed additional engineering resources to help resolve the remaining issues as soon as possible. Unfortunately, the time frames required to roll out the fully connected experience will be longer than anticipated and we do not have an exact time frame for when they will be resolved," he explains

The Driveclub PS Plus Edition is delayed indefinitely

Yoshida also highlights that, until all the problems are solved, the Driveclub PS Plus Edition, which was supposed to be offered for free at launch to all PlayStation Plus members, is delayed indefinitely.

"With the high volume of new players and additional server load the PS Plus Edition is anticipated to bring, we are currently not confident that we can guarantee the best online experience. Until we can ensure that everyone can enjoy the full social connected online experience, we will be postponing the release of the PS Plus Edition until further notice," he adds.

You can expect to hear more about Driveclub, its online issues, and its PS Plus edition in the following days and weeks.
