Upcoming PlayStation 4 exclusive racer Driveclub is finally ready to go, as Game Director Paul Rustchynsky has announced that the game has gone gold.

The news comes from a post on the PlayStation Blog, marking the end of a lengthy development process. Driveclub was initially supposed to come out alongside the PlayStation 4 console, in November last year, but it had to forgo the launch lineup in order for developer Evolution Studios to apply a little more polish.

The year-long delay has greatly benefited the title, which is poised to become a definitive next-gen racer that fully takes advantage of the power beneath the PS4's hood.

It plays smoothly and looks stunning, but many have criticized the developer's decision to stick to 30 frames per second in order to cram more detailed visuals into the game, instead of opting to go for a more crisp 60 frames per second framerate.

The developers have also announced a slew of DLC on its way in the near future, as well as several major post-launch updates, which will add dynamic weather effects and a photo mode, among others.

Driveclub is set for release on October 7 in North America and October 8 in Europe, exclusively for Sony's PlayStation 4 computer entertainment system.
