Google is now running the first doodle of the year, the first global one anyway, and to kick things off with style, it's starting with a mini-game doodle.

The game is simple, annoying skaters tear up a skating rink and it's your job to clean it up. You get out with your ice resurfacer and clean up the mess, careful not to run out of fuel too quickly.

It's not a complex game, but it makes sense in the context. If you haven't figured it out, the doodle celebrates the 112th birthday of Frank Zamboni, the inventor of the ice-resurfacing machine, most of which now bear his name.

Frank Zamboni was the son of Italian immigrants, he was an inventor, creating many practical tools, but his best-known invention is the ice resurfacer.
