BP is back in the spotlight, and once again it has the Deepwater Horizon oil spill to thank for the fact that it is getting loads of attention. Thus, media reports say that, this past Monday, a drilling services company filed a lawsuit against the oil and gas giant over said incident.

Information shared with the public says that the company that has decided to drag BP to court is dubbed Crescent Drilling and Production Inc., and that its working agenda boils down to offering drilling services.

By the looks of it, this company has a bone to pick with the oil and gas giant due to the fact that, in the aftermath of the Deepwater Horizon disaster, it experienced a significant loss of revenue. The way Crescent Drilling and Production Inc. sees things, BP must be held accountable for this. Think Progress explains that, following the Deepwater Horizon disaster in 2010, when 200 million gallons (750 million liters) spilled into the Gulf of Mexico, the United States government imposed a moratorium on new leases in this part of the country.

Since Crescent Drilling and Production Inc. is in the business of providing drilling services, this means that the company lost several business opportunities and, consequently, income. Since BP is the one responsible for the spill, it is only natural that the oil and gas giant make amends.

“As direct and foreseeable response to the Oil Spill, and the foreseeable governmental response, including the Moratoria imposed in direct response to the Oil Spill, Crescent sustained a loss in business as various projects were suspended or cancelled by Crescent’s drilling operator clients,” the lawsuit against BP reads.

According to Crescent Drilling and Production Inc., BP must be held accountable for the loss of revenue it experienced following the 2010 oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico under the Oil Pollution Act, which says that the oil and gas giant is responsible for all damages resulting from the disaster.

The news that said oil drilling services company has filed a lawsuit against BP on the grounds of revenue loss as a result of the Deepwater Horizon disaster comes shortly after the oil and gas giant was ordered by a court of law to pay compensation even to companies that fail to provide proof of damage as a result of the 2010 spill.

For the time being, BP has not made any comments on the lawsuit filed against it by Crescent Drilling and Production Inc. However, it is to be expected that it will not take lightly to it.
