The latest title update for Dragon's Dogma, which just appeared alongside the Dark Arisen expansion, is apparently causing the corruption of save game files for quite a lot of players from around the world.

The issue has been acknowledged by Capcom, who has pledged to fix it as soon as possible.

Dragon's Dogma came out last year and impressed quite a lot of PS3 and Xbox 360 owners with a more action-oriented take on the basic mechanics of other role-playing games.

Now, besides releasing the special Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen expansion, Capcom has released a special title update that ensures compatibility between the save game files of the regular title and the new one.

Sadly, this patch is apparently causing some serious issues, including complete corruption of the save game files.

Capcom has acknowledged this issue and made a statement on its Unity community page.

"A quick public service announcement for you Dragon's Dogma and Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen players. A number of users have encountered an unforeseen issue with a recent downloadable Title Update (patch). The TU, in some cases, has caused players' DD save data to become corrupted, meaning the game will no longer save or load their game progress."

Until Capcom investigates this problem, the company advises players to back up their existing save game data.

"To prevent the possibility of permanent loss of your data, please copy your existing save data (whether it be DD or DDDA) to an external storage device or cloud whenever possible--especially if you are picking up the game for the first time in a while or switching over to Dark Arisen for the first time."

"If you experience repeated issues with your save data becoming corrupt, please try playing the game offline while we investigate the issue. We’re exploring the issue currently and hope to have a solution as quickly as possible. Many apologies for the inconvenience."

As of yet, it's unclear when a fix will be released for Dragon's Dogma.
