Dragon’s Dogma is an action RPG set in an open-world fantasy setting, which was released on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 back in 2012. The game received mixed reviews, but that did not prevent it from winning a strong community mostly thanks to its complexity.

The story is the weak point of the game, but that applies to both Dark Souls games as well. Dragon’s Dogma players can choose from plenty of classes, which are called vocations: Assassin, Fighter, Mage, Magic Archer, Mystic Knight, Ranger, Strider and Sorcerer.

Each class has its own set of abilities focusing on melee, ranged or magic attacks. The Strider, however, is a bit different from the rest of the classes in the fact that its main trait is climbing on large enemies.

The complexity of the game doesn’t derive just from the multitude of classes, but also from the so-called “pawn” system, which allows players to recruit three party members who are called pawns.

One of the party characters recruited is non-playable, while the other two belong to other Dragon’s Dogma players, but you will need to be online for that to work.

The original Dragon's Dogma does not feature a direct multiplayer mode

This is rather curious as the game does not feature a direct multiplayer mode officially, though developers announced at the time of launch that Dragon’s Dogma players would be able to compete in special events via PSN and Xbox Live where a boss called Ur-Dragon needs to be downed using the effect of each party’s attacks.

Well, now it looks like Capcom wishes to monetize on the multiplayer aspect of Dragon’s Dogma, otherwise we can’t explain the new trademark the company filed for in early December, 2014.

The USPTO has received a trademark filing from Capcom for the Dragon’s Dogma Online name. The filing was received in Europe, but a few days ago Capcom filed for the same trademark in the United States and Japan as well.

Let’s hope Capcom will reveal more details on Dragon’s Dogma Online sooner rather than later, so stay tuned for more updates on the matter.
