A new video has just dropped from Tokyo Game Show, delivering some neat Dragon Quest Heroes gameplay footage, and showing some crazy Musou action coming to the DQ series.

Dragon Quest Heroes was first unveiled at Sony Computer Entertainment Japan Asia's press conference event from earlier this month, held in preparation for the Tokyo Game Show expo.

A brand new entry, but a different direction

The hack-and-slash video game is coming to the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4 home consoles in Japan sometime next spring, taking a step sideways from the usual role-playing game content and enabling gamers to go through the Dragon Quest world in a way that resembles the Dynasty Warriors games.

The upcoming title includes all kinds of past characters from the series, and just like other games in the Dragon Quest series, will take players on a sprawling journey across grassy plains, vast deserts and eerie forests, allowing them to visit a variety of different environments.

Square Enix has also released some screenshots from the upcoming game, revealing a map of the game world, showing the main hub, built around a giant World Tree and depicting a bunch of characters and action sequences, complementing the gameplay video from the trade show floor.

A brave band of allies

The images released by the publisher show a bunch of the main characters in Dragon Quest Heroes, each and every one of them designed by Akira Toryiama, the creator of most of the characters in the original series.

Acht is the primary male protagonist of the game, the captain of the guards protecting the king of Elsarze Castle. Mehr is the primary female protagonist, while Dirk is the very king, ruling over the Elsarze Kingdom, the center of the game world.

Julietta is a brave young genius, leader of the magic research institute, helping out in combat and occasionally delivering various inventions to aid in your mission. Additionally, the game will also feature various other characters from the series, such as Terry from DQ VI or Alena from DQ IV.

Dragon Quest Heroes will make its way to the PS3 and PS4 computer entertainment systems from Sony sometime in the spring of 2015, in Japan, after more than 10 years of hiatus.

For the time being, there is no word regarding a potential western edition of the hack-and-slash video game, but we'll keep our ears open and come back with any relevant news.
