BioWare has confirmed, on the official forums of its upcoming role playing game, that
Dragon Age: Origins will not be shipping, as previously announced, on October 20. But it is not joining the ranks of those titles, the most outstanding of them being StarCraft II, that will be shipped in the first quarter of 2010 but will be coming in November to the PlayStation 3, the Xbox 360 and the PC.
There is still some confusion surrounding the new date. BioWare has specifically said that the Xbox 360 and the PC version of Dragon Age: Origins will be launched on November 3 in North America, and on November 6 in Europe, but it is mentioning no clear date for the PS3 version of the game, only saying “later in November.”
This could be a bad sign for those who are looking forward to playing the RPG on Sony’s home console. Electronic Arts, which is publishing the game and likely handling the port, might have some issues with the release or maybe BioWare is preparing something special for the PS3 crowd.
Dragon Age: Origins marks
BioWare's return to fantasy after its space faring, Mass Effect days. The title was initially described as being the spiritual successor of Baldur's Gate 2 and set to tell the story of how a shadowy organization called the Grey Wardens aim to stop an ancient evil from taking over the world.
The twist is that the development team is trying to put together standard fantasy fare, life elves, dwarfs, magic and fancy clothes, with a lot of gore, complex conspiracies, betrayal and quite a lot of mature content. The battle system is real time, but can be paused at all times, and BioWare is promising that, depending on the origins of the character the player chooses, the entire experience will feel brand new. Let's hope that
Dragon Age: Origins does not get delayed past November 3.
