Publisher Electronic Arts has announced that it is preparing to deliver a new Facebook based Dragon Age experience, called Legends, which will allow players to cooperatively play with friends and earn items that can be then imported into Dragon Age 2 when the game is released early in 2011.

Dragon Age Legends is now preparing to enter beta stage and the official launch will happen at the beginning of February next year, one full month before Dragon Age 2 is out worldwide.

Mark Spenner of EA 2D said in a statement that, “We are privileged to be working with BioWare to bring the Dragon Age universe to the hundreds of millions of gamers on Facebook.”

He adds, “Our goal is to change the perception of social network games and attract new players to the Facebook platform by raising the quality bar. Dragon Age Legends will deliver a deep, sophisticated experience, and we will continue to delight gamers by adding new features and content far into the future.”

The game will take place in the Free Marches area and will create gaming experiences that are important for those who want to get the full lore of Dragon Age.

Electronic Arts and BioWare have not said exactly what rewards will be included in Dragon Age 2 for those who play the new Facebook experience and whether they are added just for participating or for completing the experience.

EA 2D has also created the first chapter in the Flash based Dragon Age Journeys, which focused on the Deep Roads, offered a few hours of gaming and also included some rewards that players could then import and use in Dragon Age: Origins.

The Journeys experience was supposed to include more chapter but with the launch of this Facebook based game its unclear whether EA 2D will continue to work on that product.
