Dragon Age: Inquisition has been out for a couple of months and has managed to get a number of Game of the Year Awards, but the development team at BioWare still has plenty of secrets to share about the world of the game and about the big gameplay decisions it has made for its action role-playing title.

A new interview with senior level designer Dean Roskell focuses on the three Dale regions and on the ways the studio aimed to make them unique, while also introducing a range of challenges that gamers have to overcome.

The developer says that initially the Exalted Plains, Emerald Graves and Emprise Du Lion were just one region, but the area was too big and it was hard to tell interesting stories because of the extensive travel times.

Splitting the area into three regions gave BioWare more space to emphasize the style of each one and to make sure that gamers were always able to follow the main quest line.

A lot of players were baffled to find that there were three big and powerful dragons to fight in the Emprise du Lion area, and Dean Roskell claims that the decision was made in order to give players a big battle that would generate some impressive stories.

He explains that “Knowing that this was going to be one of the game's final high-level areas, we really wanted to leave a lasting mark on players so they'd never forget that this is Dragon Age. Not Nug Age or Strange Pyramid Age. Dragon Age.”

Once the decision to introduce a three-dragon fight to the area was made, the team then created the three coliseums in which they lived, making sure that each engagement was separate from the others.

At the moment, the developers at BioWare are planning to deliver a fourth major patch for Dragon Age: Inquisition, which is designed to fix some of the problems the community has been flagging since launch.

The company has also said that it wants to deliver downloadable content for both the single and the multiplayer sides of the title, but no clear plans have been announced yet.

In the meantime, those who like to play with friends can enjoy the weekend events, which come complete with some interesting rewards for those who perform well.
