The development team at BioWare has been busy talking to fans of the upcoming Dragon Age: Inquisition about the characters that will serve as party members or as advisers in the game, but the studio is now ready to talk a little more about the combat in the game and other details.

The company says on Raptr that the difficulty can range from easy to nightmarish, and that each level has been designed to offer new types of challenges for gamers, while the lowest is designed to allow newcomers to experience the story.

Unlike in previous Dragon Age titles, gamers can only have one specialization, and it seems that there are no plans to make mabari hounds part of the battles.

Weapons continue to be restricted based on class, but in Inquisition players will be able to use a bow as long as they are a rogue, with no other requirements.

BioWare says that the new Knight Enchanter class is one of the most interesting it has created, explaining that they “were designed to let mages get up close and personal and the abilities in that tree encourage you to do so, including the ability to be effective at melee ranges. They’re different from Arcane Warriors, though. Less tanky.”

Dragon Age fans will be able to use some of their favorite abilities and spells from previous titles in the series, but they can also enjoy some very cool new ones, which will make it more interesting to execute cross-class combos that can deal plenty of damage to enemies.

In a nod to Origins, players will also have the option to prepare the battlefield to their advantage, using traps, carefully placed characters and timed spells, which is actually necessary in order to get past the most powerful enemies.

Even the rifts that the player character can control will open up new opportunities in combat, but it seems that jumping will not play a major part, and there’s no option to abandon a character’s weapon and simply punch enemies.

BioWare also says that the core themes of Dragon Age: Inquisition will be faith and leadership, and it seems that the main character will be seen as a savior by some of the humans that he encounters.

One weird detail is that one of the monster included in the title is called a bog unicorn, which is an undead horse with a sword through its head.

Dragon Age: Inquisition will be out on October 7 and can be played on the Xbox One, the PlayStation 4, the PC and current-gen consoles.
