Video game publisher Electronic Arts is now using the III in the title of the new Dragon Age: Inquisition in order to make sure that players understand that the new game will not be a direct sequel for the franchise.

Frank Gibeau, the leader of the EA Labels division, tells IGN that "We just wanted to draw more attention to the fact that Inquisition is an all-new chapter inside of the Dragon Age universe, as opposed to people expecting a follow-on to Dragon Age 1 and 2 in a literal, linear sense."

The game was re-announced during E3 2013 and is set to use the new Frostbite 3 engine, taking players to Orlais.

Developer BioWare has not offered any clear details on the plot or the mechanics.

The game is expected in 2014 for the PC, the Xbox One and the PlayStation 4.
