Mass Effect's romantic sequences were used as models for the new RPG

Dragon Age: Inquisition developer BioWare has confirmed that the new RPG will have tasteful romance scenes in which characters won't move awkwardly about, and that they will be based on the different sequences seen in the Mass Effect series.

BioWare have featured for quite some time romance scenes, allowing the main protagonist to forge relationships with various other characters and see them consumed in different ways.

Dragon Age: Origins, the first game in the series, also had such things, but Cinematic Director Jonathan Perry told Gamerzines that they weren't of the highest quality.

"We certainly could push those romance scenes in any direction we wanted really," he said. "Something that didn't work well is that we tried more, well I won't say graphic, but in Dragon Age: Origins we had characters crawling around in their underwear and it looked weird because they were wearing these lacy Victoria's Secret panties and outfits which looked out of place."

Perry has confirmed that the Dragon Age: Inquisition team is looking closely to the Mass Effect games, so players should expect similar scenes in the medieval RPG.

"I think Mass Effect's scenes were done really well and I think we will take Inquisition's scenes in that direction. You might have a nude character but they are framed in such a way that parts of them are in shadow, or having characters in various states of undress."

"This is the culmination of spending a lot of time with a character and getting to know them, and so we're giving scenes a mature and tasteful treatment I guess. We'll see where it goes for Dragon Age: Inquisition, it's something that we're working on right now so we'll see how these scenes pan out."

Dragon Age: Inquisition will feature a brand new playable character – the Inquisitor – who has a different background than the Grey Warden from Origins or Hawke from Dragon Age 2.
