Gamers will have more options in the middle of battles

It seems that the team at BioWare is keen to re-introduce some of the tactical depth seen in Dragon Age: Origins into its upcoming Inquisition, mainly by bringing back an overhead view that gives gamers options and by eliminating the health regeneration for characters.

Once a battle starts, players will be able to stop time and see an overhead image of the area where the characters and enemies are fighting.

Each unit can get orders and even wider tactical concepts can be implemented before time is running normally again and the player controls his own character in order to take out enemies face to face.

This will make all combat encounters more interesting and easier to manage for the gamer.

At the same time, BioWare is increasing the difficulty level of Dragon Age: Inquisition by eliminating the automatic health regeneration that happened once a fight was over.

This will mean that players need to be more careful managing items and special powers that can heal their allies.

Mike Laidlaw, a developer working on the game, is quoted on NeoGAF as saying that, “What we want to do is say, stop thinking about the encounter. Don't think, if I can just get one guy to the end of this fight everyone will magically come back to life. We want you to think more about the adventure. We want you to think about the long term.”

Level scaling in Dragon Age: Inquisition has also been eliminated in order to clearly delimitate progression in the game and introduce some battles that gamers will have to approach only after they have prepared their party.

Players will also be able to use a slider to control whether friendly fire, especially from powerful spells, is used.

The environment will also play a bigger role during battles.

Dragon Age: Inquisition will be offered to players in the fall of 2014 and will be available on the PC, the Xbox One, the PlayStation 4 and current-gen consoles.
