Dragon Age: Origins is about to get some additional content, but the addition is coming to expand the franchise, and not the actual game content. The new Dragon Age that's coming our way is not another DLC, but a comic that takes place in the same universe as the game. The comic has some pretty big names tied to it, and some are a little bit more unexpected than others. The artwork for the comic will be handled by Mark Robinson, who also worked on Skrull Kill Krew and the covers will be done by Humberto Ramos.

The writers of the comic will be Orson Scott Card in collaboration with Aaron Johnston. While Orson is very well known for Ender's Game and Johnston for Ender's Game: Mazer in Prison, and the comic is lucky to get them as writers, there is a bit of a strange occurrence here. BioWare already proved that its Dragon Age: Origins was very open minded about the sexual preferences of the characters involved, but, in the past, Orson Scott had proven to be very much against the subject.

In his own words, people that don't adhere to the biblical standard of love are "tragic genetic mix-ups," and the marriage of people that share the same gender is "an end to democracy in America." So, if anything, we can be pretty sure that no character in the game will be so open minded about relationships and camp-tent fornication as Zevran.

While Orson Scott has had previous dealing with video games, in the form of Shadow Complex, the taboo subject was in no way part of the game. So, we have to wonder just how much his presence will affect the story of the comic book. Chances are that it will turn out to be a great piece of fiction, just like any of his previous works, and there is little chance that the comic book won't be a faithful representation of Ferelden and the rest of the DA world. It's just that this tiny, little aspect present in the game won't be brought to the comic. The first comic should be ready by March 2010, so don't forget to keep an eye out for it.
