A “Terminator” reboot has been in the cards for many years but, because of scheduling issues and a pesky lawsuit, it was repeatedly put off. Come June 2015, it’s finally happening, as the first installment of a planned new trilogy will arrive in theaters worldwide.

“Terminator: Genesis” already has Arnold Schwarzenegger on board, together with Emilia Clarke of the “Game of Thrones” fame and Jai Courtney from the most recent “Die Hard” installment. It has just added another name to the cast: that of Matt Smith, best known for his role in “Dr. Who.”

News broke online before Skydance Productions had a chance to make the announcement, with EW reporting that Smith had signed for a “major” role. The studio isn’t saying anything about that, but it did tweet a confirmation after the news broke.

“We don't have a TARDIS, but we do have a Time Lord: we're pleased to welcome Matt Smith to the cast of #Terminator,” Skydance says on the official Twitter. “Matt Smith joins the cast of #Terminator as a new character w/ strong ties to John Connor.”

Your guess is as good as mine as to what Smith’s part could be. “Terminator: Genesis” has Alan Taylor in the director’s chair and a release date for June 2015.
