On his Twitter page, Dr. OZ encourages us to stop eating raw cookie dough, one of our favorite guilty pleasures. He shares the opinion of many food experts saying this kind of product exposes us to unnecessary risks, because of its connection with harmful pathogens such as E. coli.

Apparently, risks are increased especially when we crave for some raw cookie dough that comes premade and prepackaged, Food&Drink Digital reports.

Dr. Oz and the other specialists who share the same opinion rely their theory on a study published in the journal Clinical Infectious Diseases, entitled “A Novel Vehicle for Transmission of Escherichia coli O157:H7 to Humans.”

It analyzes an event that occurred in 2009, when 77 people got sick in 31 states and Nestlé Toll House was forced to recall 3.6 million packages of refrigerated cookie dough products.

It seems that 94% of the misfortunate patients neglected the labels reading that cookie dough must not be eaten raw.

The authors state that “more effective consumer education about the risks of eating unbaked cookie dough is needed.” Sounds scary enough to convince me to let go of the forbidden treat.
