The 17-Day Diet by Mike Morreno: 4 cycles of 17 days that lead to weight loss by “body confusion”

Dr. Mike Moreno, also known simply as Dr. Mike, can honestly say he may have found the secret to sustainable weight loss and dieting that doesn’t make you feel hungry all the time. It’s called The 17-Day Diet and it’s detailed in a book by the same name.

The other day, Dr. Mike was featured on Good Morning America, to promote the book and explain in detail why his diet is different from the countless other fad diets out there that are only proven to do more harm than good.

Consequently, the Internet is now all abuzz with the new “miracle” diet, making many ask out loud: just how much of a miracle is it? Does it really work?

Dr. Mike says it does and we’re to believe him not because he says so, but because there’s actually real science behind his approach to weight loss.

First of all, the diet doesn’t last only 17 days, so don’t expect this to be just another one of those “miracle” quick solutions for a problem that clearly needs time to be solved.

The diet is actually comprised of four different cycles, with each lasting 17 days. The idea is to “confuse” the body by eating varied food, so that the slimmer doesn’t come across a weight loss plateau that will prevent them from staying on the eating regime.

Overall, the goal of this diet is not to lose weight fast, but to teach the body new eating habits, habits that are healthier and that will, in time, lead to sustainable weight loss.

Or, as Dr. Mike writes in the book (quotes via Daily Mail), “With each 17 Day Cycle, you’re changing your calorie count and the foods you eat. By varying these things, you prevent your body from adapting.”

The constant through all 4 cycles is that sugar and processed foods are eliminated altogether, while alcohol only for the first stage.

Lots of emphasis is also placed on the need to keep active, which is why the book comes with a 17-minute DVD of cardio exercises – and why the diet is hailed as true winner.

Of course, that’s not to say the diet will do everything for the slimmer: though it’s more fun that other diets, rules still have to be obeyed.

“You do have to accept that this won’t be a pleasure diet. You’ve got to stop eating unhealthy [stuff]. You’ve got to eat vegetables, fruit and lean meat,” Dr. Mike writes.

“I’m not going to ask you to probe your inner eater and uncover hidden emotional reasons for why you’re fat. But I am going to ask you to keep your portions down, cut your intake of fatty, sugary, salty foods, and move your butt,” he adds.
