Continuing the Year of Luigi celebration, Dr. Luigi is heading for the Wii U eShop, scheduled to arrive on December 31.

The game will be similar to the classic puzzler Dr. Mario, with players trying to wipe out viruses through the use of colored medicine, but the recently acquired PhD of Luigi will bring a twist, now players having to throw two pills at a time, connected in an “L” shape.

Dr. Luigi will also feature a couple of new modes and updated visuals, to fit the modern incarnation.

The Year of Luigi is a special event commemorating the 30th anniversary of Luigi, a popular character from the legendary Mario Bros series.

Nintendo also intends to release a new Luigi statue for Club Nintendo, as IGN reports.

This year saw a series of games, collectibles and DLC focusing on Luigi, and it has been announced by President Satoru Iwata that the Year of Luigi will also continue during 2014.
