And it will scare her into sobriety

Lindsay Lohan’s alleged substance or alcohol addiction has been a tabloid fodder ever since she started acting more or less erratically in public. Her subsequent visits to rehab, although never confirmed as such, only came to strengthen the rumor that she was battling her own demons – and losing too. Dr. Drew Pinsky says it will take something “horrible” to scare the actress back into sobriety, and it will happen soon.

Speaking with Parade magazine on how he uses his reality shows and almost everything that he does to help celebrities and regular folks alike face and win over their addictions, Dr. Drew says Lindsay is on a route to self-destruction and it’s literally scaring him. The doctor, who has clearly seen many addicts in his long career but has never treated Lohan in any way, is almost certain Lindsay’s future spells personal tragedy and severe bodily harm.

“I’m convinced that she’ll get sober one day. But I’m afraid that between now and then, she may get a nearly mortal wound of some type. I’m really convinced that something horrible is going to have to happen to her before she really gets over it and embraces sobriety. She needs to give it up. And it’s going to be a while before she does. I have this image that she’s going to lose a limb or something before she does. And it scares me.” Dr. Drew says for the aforementioned magazine.

Rumor now has it that, post-Samantha Ronson, Lindsay Lohan has relapsed into her old habits, although no one seems to know whether she’s back to boozing or doing drugs. Dr. Drew sheds no light on this either, although he does seem very convinced that he can foresee into her future very well regardless of this minor detail, several glossy mags and celebrity blogs are pointing out.

In the same interview, Pinsky also comes to defend his VH1 reality show, Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew, saying that it is much more than just a show, but rather his way of extending a helping hand to stars who wouldn’t even hear of dealing with their problems in the first place. “You’ve got to remember we have a bunch of non-surrendered, unmotivated drug addicts who weren’t seeking treatment. But out of that group, our success rate is better than half. Gary Busey is one who I just talked to and he’s doing really well. American Idol’s Jessica Sierra is out of prison and working. Brigitte Nielsen is doing well. There are so many lives that really were changed by the show.” Dr. Drew explains.
