Dr. Drew Apologizes for Angelina Jolie Comments

The other day, Dr. Drew went on the record saying that, because Angelina Jolie was a heroin addict and Brad Pitt had commitment issues, the two were most definitely for a “nuclear split.” He’s now apologizing for it.

Speaking with Radar Online, Dr. Drew says that his words have been taken entirely out of context and that he never meant them to be put into print, let alone passed on as an actual diagnosis that he put.

He doesn’t know Jolie or Pitt, therefore he can’t possibly say those things and mean them as a diagnosis, Dr. Drew explains. He was only speaking hypothetically, he says in his defense.

“These comments were taken completely out of context (and) they were never meant to be printed. I do not know Brad or Angelina (and) I certainly don’t want to be saying things that could be perceived as hurtful for them, or harmful for them in any way,” Dr. Drew says.

“I’m deeply concerned and apologetic and apologize for these comments that were taken out of context. I don’t know these people, I don’t know the facts,” he goes on to say.

He was, however, speaking about a volatile relationship in general and he only dropped Angie and Brad’s names to illustrate a hypothetical situation – but he did so because he believed no one would quote him on it.

“Literally as though one was speculating, just going through an exercise of speculation and not some sort of analysis that was supposed to be factual or for public discourse... I could not be more upset and disturbed that these things were printed as though I was making some sort of categorical analysis of people I really don’t know,” Dr. Drew says.

He ends his apology with a message to the Brangelina couple, saying, “I wish them the best, I hope they do well, enjoy the holidays with their kids and have a nice time. I wish them no ill, believe me... I’m sorry these comments were taken out of context and made public.”

Word on the blogosphere has it the only reason Dr. Drew is apologizing is because Brad and Angelina’s lawyers threatened him with a massive lawsuit if he didn’t take everything back.
