Not long ago, researchers exploring a rainforest in Peru came across a downright bizarre worm. At first glance, the creature looks just like any other worm. However, it appears that it's anything but normal.

Thus, the scientists who found it say that this peculiar creature populating the Peruvian rainforest glows in the dark. Check out the photo gallery to get a better idea of what the creature looks like during nighttime.

Even weirder, specialists argue that this worm is a predatory one. Thus, it likes to feast on flies and ants that are ill inspired enough to venture too close to it. All things considered, it is possible that its glow helps it lure its victims.

According to Live Science, these glow-in-the-dark worms only measure about 0.5 inches (1.2 centimeters) in length. Despite their not-at-all-impressive size, they are quite vicious.

Having spent some time observing their behavior, researchers say that, when in the mood for something to eat, they simply emerge from the ground and freeze in place with their mouth open. Whenever an insect passes by, they grab it and eat it.

It is believed that these worms are actually larvae belonging to a yet-to-be-identified species of beetle. However, wildlife researchers are yet to figure out where they come from and what they are up to in Peru's rainforest.
