Apple may allow users to free up space if update is put on hold

Members of the iOS developer community are reporting that iOS 7.1. Beta 3 includes a feature that allows users to delete an update downloaded over-the-air if they change their mind about installing it.

An issue that became most apparent when Apple released iOS 7.0, over-the-air updates can get downloaded automatically but put on hold, should the user not wish to install them.

However, this way the iPhone loses a valuable amount of space, sometimes in the hundreds of megabytes, or even entire gigabytes. Apple seems willing to rectify this by including a new option in the Settings pane in iOS 7.1, one that allows testers to remove iOS 7.1 Beta 3 as any other app.

The feature is more than welcome, but it remains to be seen whether Apple is willing to include it in the final version of iOS 7.1.
