Several gaming sites are reporting that Sony has just popped out an application which you can use on your personal computer to design and edit your personal themes, backgrounds and icons for your
PlayStation Portable. Basically, you can drag anything that looks good in your opinion and drop it onto whatever icon on your PSP, totally changing the way your interface looks. You can download the file
(less than 1MB in size) right
HERE.
As for the backgrounds, those can be easily changed without using the respective application, but they're going to look a lot better using this small but nifty program. The program itself is in English, but the pdf file containing all the instructions is in Japanese. Not to worry, there’s always the application’s very simple and user-friendly interface to help you.
Sony should of course, focus on bringing more stuff to the PS3, rather than customization software for their handheld, as things are really not looking good for the big machine. However, if the "big bang" announcement everyone's waiting for is indeed going to be the cheaper, 40GB PS3 model, the company can afford wasting time with small apps such as the Custom Theme Converter for the PSP. Actually, being less than 1MB in size, it's possible that even the rats eating away the wiring at Sony HQ could have come up with it.
OK, now let's get back to our point of discussion, shall we? Just so everyone's on the same level here, this application will allow you to swap the existing icons with anything you have created in any other program, enabling you to finally customize your PSP's interface to your liking, without any constraints.
The report comes from Eurogamer.biz and doesn't mention anything about the application working only with the old PSP, or the new PSP Slim/Lite, so rest assured: no matter what model of the PSP you own, you'll be able to use
the program at 100 percent efficiency.
