2D Boy, the two-manned team behind the ingenious World of Goo have announced an update for their iPad port of the puzzle game, adding the option to skip levels an unlimited number of times, more efficient memory management, which should eliminate some crashes, and more.

A multiple award winning physics based puzzle / construction game, World of Goo is developed by Ron Carmel and Kyle Gabler, the 2D Boys who invested all their savings in the development of the title.

According to Ron and Kyle, the original coding took place in WiFi-equipped cafes, which they called "offices."

The game was an instant hit when it launched in late 2008 for Mac OS X.

It was only a matter of time before 2D Boy would launch an iOS-compatible port, which they did in mid-December 2010 with much fanfare.

Apple immediately approved the $9.99 game in the iPad App Store where it still performs well six weeks into its release.

By the way, it's discounted by 50% at the moment (one month celebration).

Some of the awards and recognition touted by 2D Boy for World of Goo include: Best Design -Academy of Interactive Arts and Sciences; Best Downloadable Title -Game Developers Choice Awards; Best Design -Independent Games Festival; Technical Excellence -Independent Games Festival; Best Indie Game -Spike TV Video Game Awards.

As noted above, World of Goo 1.2 for iPad is now available as a free update for existing players.

Most notably, the new release allows players to skip levels (unlimited number of skips), and delivers more efficient memory management (resolves some rare crash bugs).

The update also fixes issues with clouds occasionally not showing up in world of goo corporation.

A workaround for ipads with invalid region format has been implemented as well. Finally, 2D Boy notes that the iPad game is now called World of Goo HD.
