As reported by Softpedia last week, May 2 marks the moment when HBO fans can download their free HBO GO application for iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad, to enjoy over 1,400 of their favorite HBO shows.
The announcement on iTunes reads: “Introducing HBO GO. The new streaming service from HBO.”
“Watch over 1,400 of your favorite HBO shows, including HBO original programming, hit movies, sports, comedy and much more—now available on iPad, iPhone or iPod Touch! It’s HBO. Anywhere.”
Available as a free service to HBO subscribers, the HBO GO app brings original programming, movies, sports, comedy and every episode of the best HBO shows.
For those who are not very familiar with the service, shows include True Blood, Game of Thrones, Boardwalk Empire, Entourage, The Sopranos, Curb Your Enthusiasm, Sex and the City, The Wire and more, according to Home Box Office, Inc.
Users get instant access to HBO GO at all times and in any place, and they can create a customized Watchlist to catch up on all their favorite HBO shows and movies.
A Series Pass feature lets you automatically load your list with all the HBO Original Series you like.
Restricted to the US market only, the app calls for a 3G connection, according to its developers who fail to mention that the app is also WiFi-compatible.
Imagine someone not downloading the HBO Go app because the requirements say 3G. What HBO folks mean is that any cellular networking standard lower than 3G (i.e. EDGE) will not be supported.
HBO GO is compatible with iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPod touch (3rd generation), iPod touch (4th generation), and iPad and requires iOS 3.2 or later.
