The folks behind the Windows operating system have rolled out Microsoft Messenger for Mac version 8.0.0, an update that introduces the much anticipated audio/video feature for personal users with a Windows Live account, the company says.


Microsoft Messenger is a chat client that allows users to connect to the MSN network and chat with buddies online. The software also supports AOL Instant Messenger (AIM), Yahoo Messenger, and iChat.

As noted above, the new version introduces the audio/video feature for personal users with a Windows Live account.

According to Microsoft, you can now use your personal account for face-to-face interactions with family, friends, and coworkers by using Messenger for Mac or Windows Live Messenger.

“Microsoft Messenger for Mac 8 provides real-time collaboration between people in different locations. You can use instant messaging and audio and video calls to communicate with your contacts,” Microsoft notes on its Mac-centric web site - Mactopia.

“You can sign in to Messenger for Mac 8 by using a Windows Live ID. Windows Live IDs include all e-mail accounts ending in ‘@live.com’, ‘@hotmail.com’, ‘@msn.com’ and other accounts registered with Windows Live,” Microsoft adds.

Make sure you have everything you need to use this release. According to Microsoft, system requirements for Microsoft Messenger 8.0.0 include:
