iTunes 11.2 is out for Mac and Windows users with a number of improvements in areas like Podcasts and Genius. The update further includes an important security patch for a flaw where “An attacker in a privileged network position can obtain iTunes credentials.”

Released alongside OS X Mavericks 10.9.3 yesterday, iTunes 11.2 is available for Mac and Windows with improved podcast browsing.

Users can quickly find episodes they haven’t listened to in the new Unplayed tab, use the Feed tab to browse episodes that are available to download or stream, save favorite episodes for offline/later listening, and have episodes deleted automatically after they are played.

Some users have been complaining of an issue where iTunes would become unresponsive when updating Genius. This update addresses that problem and improves overall performance and stability. Apple also notes that users should sync podcast episodes to their iDevices starting with version 2.1 of the Podcasts iOS application.

Finally, the Cupertino giant dishes out information about the security content of the update and how it addresses a flaw where “An attacker in a privileged network position can obtain iTunes credentials.”

Affecting only Windows users, “Set-Cookie HTTP headers would be processed even if the connection closed before the header line was complete,” Apple explains. “An attacker could strip security settings from the cookie by forcing the connection to close before the security settings were sent, and then obtain the value of the unprotected cookie. This issue was addressed by ignoring incomplete HTTP header lines.”

These particular versions of the Windows operating system are affected and therefore targeted by the iTunes 11.2 update: Windows 8, Windows 7, Vista, and XP SP3 or later.

iTunes can be updated from the Mac App Store on your Mac, the Software Update tool bundled with Apple downloads on Windows, the Support Downloads area of Apple’s web site, the iTunes section on Apple.com and last, but certainly not least, Softpedia (at the links below).

As far as the new Podcasts 2.1 update is concerned, avid podcast listeners on iOS also get improved browsing as well as some other perks, including Siri integration (you can now ask Siri to play episodes), CarPlay support, the ability to share links to your favorite podcasts using AirDrop, and much more. Users can now open links that appear in podcast and episode descriptions in Safari by just tapping on them.
