Bjango has rolled out iStat Menus 3.10, an update to their flagship system monitoring utility for Mac OS X. The new release adds a new Combined extra, around 100 new sensors for Intel based Macs, improved sensor support for PowerMac G5s and PowerBook G4s, as well as a new icon.

One of the most popular monitoring tools for Mac OS X, iStat Menus was originally provided free of charge (when its makers called themselves iSlayer).

iStat Menus is a useful application that helps Mac owners monitor their system right from the menubar, offering eight menu extras that let them further keep tabs on every aspect of the system.

iStat menus offers the ability to track the activity of key system components like the CPU, disks, battery, memory, and sensors, as well as various system activities like disk usage, network, and even simple things like date and time.

The tool is also a paid one now (10 bucks for a seat) and does not work as a pref-pane app anymore.

According to Bjango, these are the changes in iStat Menus 3.10:

· Added new Combined extra. · Added around 100 new sensors for Intel based Macs. · Improved sensor support for PowerMac G5s and PowerBook G4s. · A new icon. · Fixed bug with battery sensors being listed under fans on PowerBooks and iBooks. · Fixed bugs with week of year in menubar.

iStat menus 3.10 requires Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard) or later.

Starting with version 2.0, iStat Menus takes full advantage of frameworks only found in Mac OS X 10.5 and 10.6, so it’s not supported on Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger.

The single remaining Tiger-compatible version is iStat Menus 1.3.

For users of this old version of OS X, iStat Menus is free to use indefinitely.
