Apple has released a new version of its photo-managing software for Mac OS X, iPhoto. Version 8.1 adds new print-product options, including three new book themes with travel-oriented designs. The update is free to download and install on any Mac running OS X 10.5.6 (Leopard) or later.

On the Support section of its website, Apple describes iPhoto 8.1 as being packed with several new, print-product options for users of the '09 version of the software. These options include the ability to order hardcover books in a new, extra-large (13" x 10") size, three new book themes with travel-oriented designs (Tropical, Asian, Old World), as well as a variety of new holiday greeting card themes. Just fire up iPhoto after installing the 8.1 update and all these newbies will be available. The update is recommended to all users of iPhoto '09, according to the Cupertino, Calif.-based Mac maker.

iPhoto '09 version 8.1 is part of the iLife '09 suite of applications developed in-house by Apple Inc. for Mac OS X. Posted on August 18, 2009, the download is roughly 160MB in size and requires Mac OS X 10.5.6 (Leopard) or later versions of the software. The current version of Mac OS X Leopard is 10.5.8. iPhoto 8.1 supports various languages, including (but not being limited to) Deutsch, English, Français, Español, Italiano, Nederlands, Dansk, Norsk Bokmål, Polski, Português, Português Brasileiro, Pусский, Suomi, Svensk, Chinese, Japanese and Korean.

“It’s so easy to take digital photos that before you know it, you have thousands,” Apple says on its website, lauding the software. “iPhoto gives you more ways to keep track of your photos by organizing them according to who’s in your pictures, where you took them, and when you took them,” the company adds, referring to iPhoto’s Faces, Places and Event features.
