Fixes SMS or 3G data failures, the iPhone Dev Team says

An update from the iPhone Dev Team is now available over at the iphwn.org Wiki, where MuscleNerd, one of the group’s hackers, reveals that redsn0w has been updated to fix a bug. Particularly, the updated jailbreak tool (which, as of last week, supports the iPhone 4.0 beta from Apple) addresses an issue for jailbreak application developers experiencing various SMS or 3G connection failures.

“For those JB app devs who experienced SMS or 3G data failures, the new 0.9.5b2 download at the bottom of this page should clear things up,” MuscleNerd writes. “You'll need to do a fresh restore to stock 4.0b1 before applying the new beta redsn0w update,” he claims in a post dated Friday, April 16.

Last week, the iPhone Dev Team released redsn0w 0.9.5, which could (and still can) effectively jailbreak a device running the iPhone OS 4.0 beta from Apple. The jailbreak still only supports iPhone 3G, and doesn’t preserve / provide carrier unlocks. According to its makers, this hack is only for developer types.

“This is a beta release of redsn0w targeted at developers of jailbroken apps,” MuscleNerd’s April 16 post says. “It uses the same pwnage2 DFU-mode exploit that we've been using since the 2.x days. Nothing new is revealed to Apple, and it's not applicable to the iPad. Don't go near it if you use yellowsn0w, ultrasn0w, or blacksn0w,” he warns.

Softpedia doesn't encourage jailbreaking / unlocking the iPhone / iPod touch or any other device. This article has a purely informational purpose and doesn't, in any way, suggest that you should hack your Apple device. Using hacks may render your device unusable, or may reduce the quality of your experience employing the respective device. If you choose to download and install jailbreak tools, you will do so at your own risk. Unlocking / jailbreaking your iPhone / iPod touch may violate your warranty or the EULA with Apple and / or your cellular-service provider.
