The new software updates audio profile for speakerphone

Apple has released a new software update for iPhone 5 owners to include some changes to the audio profile for speakerphone.

Coded without a single beta seeded to developers, iOS 6.1.4 comes about six weeks after the release of iOS 6.1.3. Unlike the latter, though, iOS 6.1.4 is geared towards iPhone 5 handsets only.

It isn’t clear why the update was necessary. However, users can expect improved behavior when routing audio to the phone’s speaker during a call.

For some, the update weighs in at 11.5 megabytes. For others, it’s an 18.3 MB download (as shown in the screenshot above). As usual, the incremental iOS update is available over-the-air (OTA) and as a standalone download from Apple’s servers, as well as through iTunes.

Users who prefer a tethered software update can connect their iPhones to a Mac or PC, fire up iTunes and select “Update.”
