Developers can now download the second iOS 5 beta from Apple which enables wireless syncing for Mac computers running the latest version of Snow Leopard or Lion.

Available as a free download for all registered Apple developers, iOS 5 beta 2 delivers the much anticipated wireless syncing function.

It’s only available for Mac at the moment and it requires iTunes 10.5 beta 2 and OS X 10.6.8 or Lion.

“You will see an option to enable wireless syncing when you connect your device to iTunes with the USB cable. It is recommended you perform your initial sync with a cable after restoring your device,” Apple tells developers, according to a MacRumors report.

The seed notes continue, with Apple explaining that “Wireless syncing is triggered automatically when the device is connected to power and on the same network as the paired computer.”

Alternately, users can manually trigger a sync from iTunes or from Settings -> General -> iTunes Sync, but need to ensure their device is plugged into a power source when performing untethered syncs.

“If you find issues with apps, media and/or photos synced to your device, you can reset then resync,” the company adds. “From Settings -> General -> Reset, choose Erase all Content and Settings. Then reconnect to iTunes and sync again.”

The Cupertino tech giant also addresses developers with a note that this beta will cause iTunes to sometimes incorrectly report Photos as "Other" in the capacity bar.

According to Apple, photo syncing otherwise works as expected.

Early adopters report that when setting up a device with iOS 5 beta 2 for the first time, users will have the option to backup to iCloud or the computer.

Over-the-air (OTA) software updates have been enabled, but there are no updates available at this time, according to itsalltech.
