The second beta of iOS 5.1 is in the hands of Apple-registered developers worldwide who are being informed that Photo Stream content can now be deleted by file, as opposed to bulk deletion.

Among the various fixes and enhancements listed by Apple for iOS 5.1 Beta 2 (build 9B5127c), one particular account catches the eye - iCloud Photo Stream.

“Photos taken using iOS 5.1 can be deleted from Photo Stream on your device and will be removed automatically from Photo Stream on your other iOS 5.1 devices,” Apple says. “Older photos can be manually deleted from your iOS 5.1 devices.”

This change is the result of numerous complaints about Photo Stream’s limitations regarding the manipulation of individual files.

Although several new features might be in order here as well, it’s a good thing to see Apple has listened carefully.

Also new in the new iOS 5.1 beta is the updated Setup Assistant. According to Apple, “Immediately after completing the Setup Assistant, it may re-appear and show the wifi screen and/or final ‘Thank You’ screen. The workaround when in this loop is to reboot the device,” says the iPhone maker.

The SpringBoard Lock Screen should not fly under the developers’ radar either. The fruity company headquartered in Cupertino, California explains that “The lock screen can intermittently get in a state where double-clicking the home button will no longer bring up the camera button. To get out of that state, you need to restart the device,” developers are told.

Alongside the various IPSWs served up for download, theres’a new Xcode 4.3 Developer Preview 2 to be had. The bundle comes with its own Readme and Release Notes (currently unavailable to the public).

Developers looking to download the latest iOS and Xcode betas must visit the company’s iOS Dev Center. A paid developer license is required to sign in and download the goods.
