14 DAY TRIAL // In tandem with the GarageBand 1.0.1 release, a new version of iMovie is immediately available for iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad.
Enabling owners of a new-generation iDevice to make beautiful HD movies anywhere, iMovie is touted by Apple as being “the fast and fun moviemaking app for iPhone, iPod touch, and the amazing new iPad 2.”
“Designed for the Multi-Touch screen, iMovie puts everything you need to tell your story at your fingertips,” says Apple.
Whether on iPhone or iPad, the app lets you browse and play projects in Marquee view, add video, photos, music, and sound effects, as well as themes, titles, and transitions.
In version 1.2.1 Apple has added the ability to have audio play from an HDTV when using the Apple Digital AV Adapter, and to have video play full screen from Marquee to an HDTV when using the same accessory.
It provides more accurate clip grouping by date in Video browser, and fixes an issue where a project's background music would not fade in or out, Apple says.
Finally, iMovie 1.2.1 resolves some cases of missing media in projects and delivers additional performance and reliability improvements, according to the release notes.
Users who haven’t yet updated to iMovie 1.2 should be aware that the application is now a universal one, meaning it displays perfectly on both Retina display (iPhone, iPod touch) and the large 9.7-inch screen of the iPad.
It also brings a Multi-Touch Precision Editor (iPad only); multitrack audio editing with 8 themed soundtracks and over 50 bundled sound effects; audio recording directly into the timeline; audio waveforms (iPad only); three new themes — Neon, Simple, and CNN iReport; HD sharing directly to YouTube, Facebook, Vimeo, and CNN iReport; and AirPlay support for sharing to Apple TV.
iMovie for iOS is a resource demanding application, therefore will only work with the Apple devices that have an A4 or A5 processor - iPhone 4, iPod touch (4th generation), iPad 2 Wi-Fi, and iPad 2 Wi-Fi + 3G.
iMovie iOS also requires a minimum iOS 4.2.6 firmware version.
