e-Book reading fans have a new version of iBooks to download from Apple to start enjoying a new nighttime theme, improved fonts, new classic covers for public domain books, and a full-screen layout, just to name a few of the latest enhancements.

According to the company headquartered at 1 Infinite Loop, Cupertino, California, “iBooks is an amazing way to download and read books.”

“iBooks includes the iBookstore, where you can download the latest best-selling books or your favorite classics – day or night,” Apple states. “Browse your library on a beautiful bookshelf, tap a book to open it, flip through pages with a swipe or a tap, and bookmark or add notes to your favorite passages.”

The latest version, iBooks 1.5, adds new features as well as some stability and performance improvements, according to the Mac makers.

These include a nighttime reading theme that “makes reading books in the dark easier on the eyes,” and full-screen layout, which “lets you focus on the words without distraction.”

“iBooks now features an improved selection of fonts, including Athelas, Charter, Iowan, and Seravek [and] beautiful new classic covers for public domain books,” Apple adds.

Finally, iDevice owners updating to the latest version of the application will get a redesigned annotation palette. This enhancement is aimed at making it easier to choose a color for highlighted text, according to the release notes.

iBooks 1.5 requires an iPhone 3G, iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPad, iPod touch (2nd generation), iPod touch (3rd generation), or iPod touch (4th generation) and iOS 4 or later for iPhone and iPod touch.

The iBookstore may or may not be available in your country and the selection of titles available in your territory may differ. Also, you need an Apple ID to download books from Apple.
