14 DAY TRIAL // In all fairness, Windows 7 is quite different from Windows XP, albeit less so compared to Windows Vista. In this regard, it is possible that some users will find themselves at a loss when running the latest iteration of the Windows client from Microsoft. But there is hope for them yet. Microsoft has made available for download a free resource accompanying the operating system. Titled “Your Guide to Windows 7,” the documentation is available free of charge, with the Redmond company indicating that it has been put together for IT professionals. However, there’s absolutely no limitations stopping non-IT pros from leveraging the guide.
“Windows 7 might look and feel very different when you first use it. That’s why you’re turning to your IT department for help. They’ve listened to your questions and your needs and passed this information on to us. We thought about what help you would need and went away to produce this short guide. It’s designed to demonstrate some of the new features of Windows 7, as well as show you how you can do everyday tasks quickly and easily,” Microsoft stated.
According to Rob Margel, working in Windows Web Services and Content team in the UK, “Your Guide to Windows 7” covers the following aspects of the operating system: gadgets, searching, Projector Mode, the new taskbar, problems step recorder, Aero Peek, libraries, Windows Shortcut keys, Aero Snap, and Windows Troubleshooting & the Action Center. Users should expect nothing more than a lightweight presentation of Windows 7 and some of the new features that it brings to the table. This resource is not designed for advanced users which are bound to find it rather superficial.
Of course, the best way to get familiarized with Windows 7 is to have a hands-on experience. Microsoft continues to offer for download the free trial version of Windows 7 Enterprise RTM.
