Yahoo Messenger, the popular instant messaging client from Yahoo, has just gotten a small update. Yahoo Messenger 10.0.0.1258 is a minor release, but an important one, as it plugs several security issues with the IM software. The update comes just a few weeks after a previous one, which fixed several issues with the touted video-chat feature.

"Today we released an updated version of Yahoo! Messenger 10 (version 10.0.0.1258). This latest release includes several security enhancements. You can download the latest version of Yahoo! Messenger 10 from our website. And as always, we welcome feedback about your experience with the product. Just go to the Help menu in Yahoo! Messenger 10 and select 'Send Feedback…' to get started," Product Manager Sarah Bacon announced.

Yahoo doesn't list the security issues fixed, but having unsafe software on your PC is a bad idea and you should update as soon as possible. You can head over to the Yahoo Messenger site to get the latest copy or skip a few steps and grab the full installer from the download link at the bottom.

Yahoo Messenger is one of the most popular IM services in the world with millions of people using it. It has been around for more than a decade and has gone through several iterations since then. The latest one is Yahoo Messenger 10, which comes with some pretty interesting features, the most notable of which are the one-on-one video-chat capabilities.

With Yahoo Messenger 10, you can make real-time synchronized video calls, provided your Internet connection can handle them, a great feature to have, especially now that broadband is pretty widely available. Another notable addition to Yahoo Messenger 10 is the status Updates tab, which allows you to keep up with what your friends are doing across various web services and social networks.
