Developed by
David Watanabe, Xtorrent is an advanced torrent client that aims to bring a friendly interface and powerful features to the world of
BitTorrent. Unlike similar BitTorrent clients for Mac, the full version of Xtorrent is not free, but the features speak for themselves.
“Xtorrent is all about search,” Watanabe says. “Type keywords in and the results show up right in Xtorrent. One click later and you're downloading your content. It's ridiculously easy... and it's only in Xtorrent,” he says. “You can browse the files and folders of a torrent before downloading and see its real-time swarm status,” the developer explains. Using the straightforward media type and keyword filters, you can easily zero in on your search results.
Spanning three different builds now, the stable Xtorrent 1.1 adds improved behavior when changing incomplete folders, a fix for incorrect file size stats, Leopard improvements, a search suggestion fix and a version update change, according to the release notes over at xtorrentp2p.com.
An Xtorrent 2 preview / beta version is also available. “Xtorrent 2 is now available as a public preview from the Xtorrent 2 preview website,”
says Watanabe. “This has been extensively tested over the last two weeks by private testers [...] and is in good shape for wider testing.”
The developer has priced Xtorrent at $25 for single user license that eliminates all nags, feature limits and bandwidth caps users get the unregistered version. You can still use the software if you don’t register, but it’s functional to the point where you can make an idea of what it’s capable of. You can also customize your license by purchasing a $15 + Household Option, which allows up to 3 family members or people living in the same household and with the same internet connection to use an Xtorrent license on their computers. Another $15 option (+ Lifetime Upgrades) nabs users all (future) major upgrades of Xtorrent for free.
