A new flavor of WordPress for Android is now available for download for the owners of devices running under Google’s Android operating system, namely version 2.2.
The new app release comes along with a nice range of enhancements, including support for featured images, new stats, and a series of reliability and performance enhancements.
WordPress for Android 2.2 arrives on devices with support for setting featured images straight from the application
, to match the availability of the feature in many WordPress themes.
To take advantage of the new option, users will simply have to tap on an image after adding it to the post content area, and then select the ‘Use as featured image’ checkbox. At the same time, they will be able to select the image to be included in the post content.
“Note that you’ll need WordPress 3.4.1 or greater and a theme that supports featured images in order to use this feature,” a recent post on the WordPress blog reads.
As mentioned above, the new app flavor also brings along the possibility to access new WordPress.com straight from the application, a feature that should prove quite handy for many users.
“When accessing stats now, you will see all of the same data that you see when at your blog’s web dashboard including Views by Country and Top Posts & Pages. If you are running a self-hosted blog and want to enable stats in the app, install the free Jetpack plugin,” said blog post explains.
The new app release
also comes with performance improvements that are meant to make it both more reliable and faster than before. Moreover, error messages are now easier to read and to understand.
The enhancements packed inside this app flavor are based on user feedback, and more of them are set to arrive soon. The ActionBar will be improved next, along with post editor and add push notifications for comments.
