The third release candidate for WordPress 3.2 has been released. The finishing touches are being put on the latest version of the popular blogging software. WordPress 3.2 RC3 comes with a plethora of security fixes, the same ones from WordPress 3.1.4 which was released at the same time. RC3 also comes with several other tweaks and fixes.

"This release was about all that stood in the way of a final release of WordPress 3.2," WordPress.org wrote.

"So we’re also announcing the third release candidate for 3.2, which contains all of the fixes in 3.1.4; few minor RTL, JavaScript, and user interface fixes; and ensures graceful failures if 3.2 is run on PHP4," the announcement added.

"As a reminder, we’ve bumped our minimum requirements for version 3.2 to PHP 5.2.4 and MySQL 5.0," it warned.

The plan was to have WordPress 3.2 out the door by the end of the month, but this seems unlikely now. Still, the final version is a short while off and should be coming soon enough.

You can check out what's new and maybe help out the developers by testing to see if everything works in WordPress 3.2 by installing it, but you should probably do it on a test site even at this late stage.

WordPress 3.2 comes with a number of improvements and new features. There's a refreshed dashboard, with a more intuitive and more ergonomic layout.

There is also a brand new full screen editor which was designed to enable distraction-free writing. The new editor is already live on WordPress.com so you can check it out there if you have an account. Finally, WordPress 3.2 also introduces this year's default theme, Twenty Eleven.

"To test WordPress 3.2, try the WordPress Beta Tester plugin (you’ll want 'bleeding edge nightlies'). Or you can download the release candidate... At this stage, plugin authors should be doing final tests to ensure compatibility," WordPress explained.
