While Microsoft is hammering away at Windows Fiji, the upcoming release of Windows Media Center scheduled for availability in the second half of 2007, as it is intimately connected with the releases

of Windows Server 2007, code-name Longhorn, Windows vista Service Pack 1 and Windows Home Server, the company has made available for download Windows Media Center Software Development Kit 5.0.

Windows Media Center Software Development Kit 5.0 provides developers with a collection of documentation, tools and sample code designed to enable the creation of applications and services that will integrate seamlessly with Windows Media Center. MicrosoftWindowsMediaCenter-SDK-WindowsVista-ENU.msi is a 28.8 MB download available only after WGA validation.

"The Windows Media Center Software Development Kit is designed to help developers create applications and software components that take advantage of features provided by Windows Media Center. This release includes documentation, tools, sample code and Visual Studio 2005 project templates for the following Windows Media Center platform models: Windows Media Center Presentation Layer Application (Local, Background and Web), Hosted .NET Framework 3.0 eXtensible Application Markup Language Browser Application (XBAP) and Hosted HTML," informed Microsoft.

Although Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 1, Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 2 and all editions of Windows Vista can access the documentation and sample code, Microsoft informed that the Windows Media center SDK 5.0 requires additional resources for all the design and development features of the Kit. First off, Windows Vista Home Premium or Windows Vista Ultimate are a must, but the SDK also requires Microsoft Visual C# Express Edition 2005, Microsoft Visual Basic Express Edition 2005 or Microsoft Visual Studio 2005, .NET Framework 3.0 XBAP development only: Visual Studio 2005 extensions for .NET Framework 3.0.
